The Japanese financial conglomerate SBI Holdings has acquired a controlling stake in the regulated cryptocurrency exchange BITPoint. According to Nikkei.
The platform competes with SBI VC Trade, the group’s own crypto trading platform.
The deal contemplates the acquisition of 51% of BITPoint and 5% of the exchange operator Remixpoint for $98.6 million. The latter may also receive additional payments if certain financial targets are met.
SBI Holdings has not disclosed plans to integrate BITPoint into SBI VC Trade.
The acquired platform is expected to boost liquidity via the group’s OTC platform B2C2, which SBI Holdings приобрела in December 2020.
Earlier the group стал владельцем криптовалютной биржи TaoTao из Японии.
In September 2021, SBI Holdings announced the launch of the country’s first cryptocurrency fund.
