Kamala Harris Pledges Support for Black Investors in Cryptocurrency

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to support a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies that will protect Black men investing in digital assets.

The initiative will be part of the “Black Men’s Opportunity Program,” aimed at helping them build wealth. According to the U.S. presidential candidate’s plan, over 20% of Black Americans currently own or have previously owned cryptocurrencies.

“Vice President Harris values the ways in which new technologies can expand access to banking and financial services. She will ensure that digital asset owners and investors benefit from the regulatory framework and that market participants are protected,” the campaign plan states.

The vice president’s team intends to provide 1 million forgivable loans of up to $20,000 to Black entrepreneurs wishing to start their own businesses. There are also plans to launch a healthcare initiative and legalize recreational marijuana.

This is not Harris’s first comment on cryptocurrencies. In September, she stated that if elected President of the United States, she intends to “encourage innovative technologies like AI and digital assets with consumer and investor protection.”

Later, on the evening of October 14, Harris delivered a campaign speech praising her opportunity program without providing details on what it would mean for digital assets. Cryptocurrencies or blockchain technology were not mentioned.

In July, another U.S. presidential candidate, Donald Trump, promised to end the war on the new asset class and turn the U.S. into the crypto capital of the world if elected president.

Back in the night of September 11, debates between Harris and Trump concluded without discussing the topic of cryptocurrencies.
