Kamchatka region government foils Monero mining attempt

In the Kamchatka region, several civil servants installed software for cryptocurrency mining on the computers of the regional government. report by local media.

The programs were detected under the officials’ accounts on automated workstations. They allowed mining Monero, Bytecoin and Infinium-8.

"The detected malware could threaten the security of the Kamchatka regional government’s internal network and expose computers and servers to infection by hidden miners," the regional government said.

The investigation materials have been handed over to the FSB.

Earlier, in February, the head of the Chelyabinsk division of Russian Railways (RZD) became a suspect in a criminal case due to mining at the workplace.
