Kazakhstan’s central bank says it will not ignore the crypto market

The National Bank of Kazakhstan is studying the cryptocurrency market, but says it is too early to talk about legalising crypto assets. This was stated by central bank head Galymzhan Pirmatov, according to местные СМИ.

According to him, the regulator plans to “maximise the benefits” of new technologies.

The head of the central bank said that the regulator is attracted to innovations in decentralised finance:

“We are not pursuing the issue of miners or any particular segment. We are interested in the opportunities for innovations that these new technologies give us. Therefore we will conduct these discussions in such a way that our decisions do not adversely affect macroeconomic stability and the interests of consumers of financial services”.

Pirmatov also said that by the end of June the central bank would determine the methodology for deciding on launching the digital tenge.

Back in 2020, Kazakhstan began considering creating a central bank digital currency. At the end of last year the National Bank reported the results of testing the asset.
