The agreement envisages opening a virtual KEB Hana branch in The Sandbox metaverse to provide core banking services and promote investments.
\”Metaverses are a means of Web3 interaction among people, and we want to be part of the new trend. This partnership could open doors to a wholly new type of services, especially for younger generations,\” said Chon Kim, the bank’s vice president.
Founded in 1967, KEB Hana is one of South Korea’s largest commercial banks. According to a press release, the company operates 199 branches in 24 districts — more than any other bank in the country.
In April, the Hong Kong unit of the financial giant Standard Chartered bought a plot in The Sandbox to explore the possibilities of the new space.
In March, the largest British bank HSBC bought virtual land in the same metaverse to engage with service providers and attract sports communities.
