Kenyan Farmer Receives Crypto Donations for Goat Purchases

Users on X have begun sending cryptocurrency to Kenyan Richard Opany for the purchase of goats. In return, he names them after tokens, networks, or notable figures.

The initiative began when Opany shared his plan to buy an animal for Easter. He purchased a goat with tokens worth approximately $100 received after verification in Worldcoin and named it after the project’s co-founder, Sam Altman.

Following this, members of the crypto community began sending him coins for the purchase of new goats, suggesting names. PoolTogether co-founder Leighton Cusack transferred $100 to Opany. 

The Kenyan farmer kept his promise, naming the goats Higher and Base (after the L2 solution).

Other notable crypto figures also decided to assist Opany. CoinCenter’s Head of Communications, Neeraj Agrawal, sent him $50 and requested a goat be named after Castle Island Ventures General Partner, Nic Carter. 

Carter himself donated $100, suggesting the name Wolfram. An anonymous user known as zkBrunny, formerly head of ecosystem at Aztec Network, sent $50 for a goat named Boaty McBoatFace. 

According to on-chain data, Opany’s address has received over $1700 in various assets. He has already transferred some funds to crypto exchanges. 

Opany stated he can maintain a maximum of 15 goats, but community orders have already exceeded this number. He promised to report on each animal in the future. 

Digital assets have long been used for donations and supporting individuals. For instance, developers of the meme cryptocurrency HarryPotterObamaSonic10Inu (BITCOIN) help build water wells for Nigerian residents and sponsor a local children’s football team. 

Previously, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin donated 99 ETH to those affected by earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
