Kremlin declines to comment on rumors of a full ban on cryptocurrencies in Russia
The Kremlin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, redirected the question about a possible ban on cryptocurrencies in Russia to the central bank, according to ТАСС.
“This is not the Kremlin’s prerogative; it is the prerogative of the megaregulator, so please contact them,” he told reporters.
Bloomberg, citing its own sources reported that the FSB had persuaded the head of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, to back a full ban on cryptocurrency operations in Russia.
In December, Reuters wrote about the central bank’s plans to ban investments in crypto assets, and Indefibank CEO Sergey Mendeleev reported.
The central bank itself has not commented on the situation yet.
