KuCoin Returns 84% of $280 Million Stolen in September

The KuCoin cryptocurrency exchange has returned most of the funds stolen by hackers in September this year, according to KuCoin CEO Johnny Lyu.

“As of now, 84% of assets have been recovered through on-chain transaction tracking, smart contract upgrades, and judicial recovery,” wrote Johnny Lyu.

According to him, details of the process will be disclosed after the investigation is completed.

KuCoin resumed servicing 176 tokens. The remaining funds will be available by November 22. The exchange’s CEO thanked everyone who supported the platform during the incident.

Earlier, on September 26, KuCoin reported an unauthorized withdrawal of Bitcoin, ERC-20 tokens and other assets from the exchange’s hot wallets. Analysts estimated the damage from the breach at $280 million.

In early October, Johnny Lyu stated that the platform had identified suspects in the breach and secured an additional $64 million at their addresses.
