The newly elected governor of La Guaira (Venezuela), Jose Alejandro Teran, proposed awarding scholarships to students of Centro de Formación Tecnica for studying mining and cryptocurrencies.
The initiative is part of the La Guaira Digital programme, aimed at improving the country’s economic situation. The scholarships are intended to encourage citizens to raise their financial literacy.
Students at Centro de Formación Tecnica will study cryptocurrency mining, trading of digital assets, non-fungible tokens, and other related topics.
The proposal has already been endorsed by the National Administration for Crypto Assets and Related Activities, the Axie Infinity Academy, the Independientes con Terán political group, and members of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela.
“I am young and I believe in the digital economy. By helping people create multiple sources of income, we are ensuring the economic stability of their families,” Teran wrote.
The politician pledged to become the first governor in Venezuela to develop digital technologies and to organise trading courses.
Earlier, the Venezuelan branch of Pizza Hut, Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetía and the country’s largest aviation training centre, Caracas Air, began accepting Bitcoin as payment.
In March 2021, the Bank of Venezuela provided citizens with the ability to purchase stablecoins. In May, President Nicolas Maduro ordered social payments in El Petro.
