Discussion is also taking place on Discord.

Medalla does not use real ETH and does not allow earning real rewards. The network is aimed solely at preparing the second-largest cryptocurrency for the transition to the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism.

\n

To launch, the requirement to deposit 524,288 test ETH for staking was met.

“The launch of Medalla is a major milestone in the development of ETH 2.0. If it remains stable, the next step will be the launch of the mainnet. This is the result of many years of hard work by a vast number of engineers, researchers and community members,” said Danny Ryan, a developer at the Ethereum Foundation.

\n

Initially, the new network is supported by five clients: Lighthouse, Nimbus, Prysm, Teku and Lodestar. Cortex and Trinity are expected to be supported later.

The full specification can be found on the testnet’s GitHub.

ForkLog also hosted a dedicated stream for the Medalla launch:

Earlier, Ethereum Foundation and Consensys launched the test version of Launchpad. It is a launch panel for preparing validators for staking in the second version of the Ethereum protocol.
