Lightning Network to be supported in El Salvador’s Bitcoin ATMs
Athena Bitcoin Global and Genesis Coin integrate Lightning Network (LN) into Bitcoin ATMs in El Salvador and other Latin American countries. This is reported by MarketScreener.
The initiative aims to speed withdrawals and minimise fees.
The update will be rolled out gradually, starting with Chivo devices in El Salvador, where by the end of the year 100 installations are planned to be upgraded. The rest will undergo modernization in the first quarter of 2024.
As of this writing, the capacity of the Lightning Network stands at 5,460 BTC (~$200.2 million).

Earlier in October, River Financial described the LN growth over the previous two years as a shock.
In the same month, El Salvador’s Vice President Félix Ulloa linked the country’s exit from the crisis to the adoption in 2021 of the first cryptocurrency as legal tender.
