Line Messenger Launches Telegram-Style Web3 Applications
Web3 company LINE NEXT has unveiled a platform for decentralized applications (dapps) integrated into its parent messenger. This was reported by The Block.
The initial batch of dapps includes the game Captain Tsubasa -RIVALS-, based on the Japanese manga of the same name, the fitness application Superz, as well as social networks and other content supporting Web3 with the ability to trade digital assets.
All services operate on the L1 blockchain Kaia, launched by LINE NEXT in collaboration with the South Korean messenger Kakao.
By the end of 2025, the platform plans to host over 1,000 blockchain applications.
Line is a leading messenger in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. As of 2024, its user base was estimated at 200 million. Developers hope the new platform will accelerate Web3 adoption in Asia.
Back in December 2023, LINE NEXT raised $140 million to develop its NFT segment.
