Linea Eliminates Over Half a Million Sybil Addresses Ahead of Airdrop

The Linea Association, established by ConsenSys to advance the eponymous Layer 2 network, has excluded 516,960 addresses from a total list of 1.29 million intended for the upcoming airdrop.

The reason cited is the use of specialised software for coordinated actions in related wallets (farms).

With support from Nansen, the team identified 39.85% of the addresses as sybils.

As a result, the distribution of Linea XP (LXP) will occur among 780,243 “legitimate and targeted” wallet holders.

According to the developers, during the “thorough analysis,” they aimed to reduce the risk of unfairly excluding “genuine” users by applying extensive labels, coverage, and AI models to cluster addresses with similar on-chain activity.

The team has launched a website for verification. Community members can appeal if they disagree with the sybil status designation. Each case will be reviewed “with maximum effort.”

In October, Linea introduced a protocol improvement proposal with decentralisation solutions.

Previously, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin described identification tools as a solution to the shortcomings of airdrops.
