Litecoin developers deploy Mimblewimble update on testnet

The Litecoin team rolled out on the testnet a new version of the Litecoin Core client 0.21.2. The release includes updates to Mimblewimble Extension Block (MWEB) and Taproot.

“We have been working very hard to fix all the bugs before the final release. Thanks to everyone helping us test MWEB on the testnet,” said Litecoin founder Charlie Lee.

Mimblewimble — is a protocol with scalable capabilities and enhanced privacy. It uses several technologies, including confidential transactions and CoinJoin, which hides the inputs and outputs of senders and receivers, and also consolidates multiple transactions into one.

Lead MWEB developer David Burkett confirmed that bug hunting is active and the team is close to launching Core 0.21.2 on the mainnet.

“I think we’re finally nearing the end. Help us find these last few stubborn defects so we can focus on activation. Perhaps then I can finally get some sleep,” he told users.

In the Bitcoin network, the Taproot upgrade was activated in November 2021. This was the largest upgrade since 2017.

Earlier, in 2020, Litecoin developers created a dedicated testnet to integrate the Mimblewimble protocol.
