The SNACKCLUB startup, affiliated with the Brazilian esports team LOUD, closed a $9 million seed round. ForkLog was told by project representatives.
Funds raised from Mechanism and other investors will be used to launch DAO focused on reimagining ownership in games.
Round participants also included Animoca Brands, Ascension Assets, Formless Capital, Jump Crypto, OP Crypto and Shima Capital.
SNACKCLUB’s mission is to inform players in developing countries about the advent of the GameFi era and related opportunities. Its founders emphasised that the new format could have a real impact on the incomes and livelihoods of people in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
LOUD’s audience stands at around 300 million. SNACKCLUB expects supporters of the esports team to join the emerging blockchain-gaming community.
The organisation will acquaint the community with new games, assets and development teams. Over time, users will begin making strategic decisions about the use of game concepts and mechanics.
There will also be a vote on investments in blockchain platforms, game developers and project-development efforts. DAO members may be any person over 18. There are no entry fees.
Most of SNACKCLUB’s ownership and governance will be reserved for the community. By year-end, the founders and investors will complete the organisation’s strategic vision.
Newzoo analysts forecasted that P2E models in games will become more widespread as developers seek to diversify revenue sources.
According to DappRadar, in January $1 billion was invested in the GameFi infrastructure and blockchain games — a quarter of the total for 2021.
In February 2022, venture accelerator Brinс and NFT-game operator Animoca Brands запустили Guild Accelerator Program to support GameFi guilds.
