Madonna buys Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT for $556,000

Singer Madonna purchased an NFT from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection (BAYC). The token purchase for 180 ETH (~$556,000) was carried out through the concierge service of MoonPay, the infrastructure provider.

“I finally joined the metaverse. My own monkey! Thanks MoonPay. We all need protection from the evil eye,” the singer wrote.

According to OpenSea, MoonPay purchased BAYC #4988 token last week and on Wednesday transferred it to a wallet believed to belong to Madonna. Seven months ago the same NFT sold for 46.5 ETH.

On Thursday, MoonPay also transferred BAYC #1506 to an unknown address. After that, rapper Wiz Khalifa set the token as his Twitter avatar.

Earlier, the company behind the BAYC collection, Yuga Labs, raised $450 million in investments at a $4 billion valuation.

Back in March 2022, the BAYC team introduced the ApeCoin token linked to the ecosystem and conducted an airdrop among NFT holders.
