The police of the city of Miri (Malaysia) destroyed a batch of ASIC miners confiscated during raids. Local portal dayakdaily reports.
On July 16, journalist Colin Wu reported that a video circulated in the Chinese cryptocurrency community showing a steamroller driving over the devices.
The Chinese community is reposting this video, implying the previous ban. But this video seems to be in Latin America. China just shut down the power supply of mines, and did not seize or destroy mining machines. pic.twitter.com/brUmcSVgyU

According to him, some community members linked the incident to the recent repressions by the PRC authorities against miners. However Wu himself suggested that the action took place in Latin America.
Later it became known that the equipment was destroyed by the Miri police. The local portal cited the statement of Hakemala Hawari, the district police chief. According to him, 1,069 Bitcoin miners worth 5.3 million ringgits ($1.25 million) were seized during six raids between February and April.
Earlier, Johor state authorities detained miners on suspicion of electricity theft worth $600 000. During searches, law enforcement found 148 units of equipment for cryptocurrency mining.
Earlier, in June 2021, Malaysia’s police arrested four suspects in organizing illegal connections to power grids for Bitcoin mining and seized 411 devices.
