
Media: GCash mobile wallet has not ruled out cryptocurrency support
The Philippine fintech company Mynt is studying the possibility of launching a function to buy, sell and store cryptocurrencies in the GCash mobile wallet. This was reported by the local news agency Philstar Global.
In a comment, GCash CEO Martha Sazon noted that the platform has been examining options to add support for digital assets for some time. According to her, GCash serves about 40% of the Philippine population, and the number of users has surpassed 40 million.
“We will continue to innovate and provide timely and accessible financial services for everyone,” stressed Sazon.
In November 2020 PayPal launched the ability to buy and sell Bitcoin and several altcoins for customers in the United States. According to PayPal president Dan Schulman, demand for cryptocurrenciesexceeded the company’s expectations.
Later, the PayPal-owned mobile payments service Venmo added the ability to buy and sell cryptocurrencies.
In May, PayPal announced the ability to transfer digital assets to external wallets.
