Media: MicroBT to release a new generation of ASIC miners by year-end

The Chinese manufacturer of miners MicroBT will release the next generation of Whatsminer devices for Bitcoin mining by the end of the year, according to journalist Colin Wu.

Exclusive: WhatsMiner will release the next-generation Bitcoin mining machine M50S at the end of the year. It will continue to use Samsung 8nm chips with an energy efficiency ratio of 30J/T. According to Wu, the Whatsminer M50S will continue to use Samsung 8-nanometer chips, and the miner’s energy efficiency will be about 30 J/TH. The device will outpace Bitmain’s flagship Antminer S19, which has an efficiency of 34.5 J/TH, the journalist noted.

According to Wu, this year MicroBT is set to release a pilot batch of miners. Sales will begin early next year with deliveries in the middle of the year. The price is not yet known, and is expected to be higher than that of the Whatsminer M30S.

Ahead of the launch of the new-generation devices, MicroBT may release an updated version of the M30S, the journalist added.

He noted that the company’s main competitor, Bitmain, continues to suffer the negative consequences of an internal corporate conflict. The power struggle between co-founders Jihan Wu and Micree Zhan has affected miner shipments, and, most importantly, the development of a new generation of devices.

Although Jihan Wu regained his status as Bitmain’s legal representative, the co-founders’ dispute is far from over. This opens market opportunities for other mining hardware manufacturers, such as MicroBT and Canaan, the journalist believes.

Earlier, Micree Zhang announced the release of Bitmain miners based on 5nm chips manufactured by TSMC.
