Media: NBA Club to Offer Salary Payments in Bitcoin
The NBA’s Sacramento Kings will offer the team and staff the option to receive their salaries in Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency. This was stated by owner Vivek Ranadivé on Clubhouse, as reported by CoinDesk.
An official confirmation is planned within the week.
“Any player can convert his earnings into any cryptocurrency. Getting paid in Bitcoin changes nothing. I’m more interested in holding the coins,” commented Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
The publication believes such a move would cement the Kings’ status as the most cryptocurrency-friendly professional sports team in the United States.
Since 2014, the California club has offered Bitcoin as a payment option for fans, and in 2019 it launched a bonus token for them.
The Dallas Mavericks began accepting Bitcoin payments in August 2019, and since March 2021 — Dogecoin.
In December 2020, NFL player Russell Okung began automatically transferring half of his $13 million annual salary into Bitcoin.
