Media reports: AMD to release GPUs for cryptocurrency mining.

In the coming months, AMD could release a line of specialized GPUs for cryptocurrency mining. Trade press cite an инсайдера who studied a new version of the company’s Linux drivers.

In the driver, a new device появилось новое устройство named NV12 (Navi 12), which will lack hardware support for encoding and decoding Video Core Next (VCN).

It is anticipated that this will be a headless card based on the Navi generation 1 (RDNA) architecture and equipped with 2,560 stream processors.

As such a configuration would be useless for ordinary users, insiders suggested that the new chip could form the basis of a specialized mining-GPU lineup.

The design is intended for Linux-based devices.

Memory configuration for these cards remains unknown, but experts doubt AMD will use HBM2 stacks for mining.

Back in November 2020, an insider from Japan using the nickname KOMACHI_ENSAKA reported that AMD was preparing three additional Radeon chips named RX 5700XTB, RX 5700B and RX 5500XTB. The letter ‘B’ in the name of each model stands for ‘blockchain’ and indicates the hardware’s specification.

AMD has not commented on this information yet.

Earlier this year, Nvidia announced the Cryptocurrency Mining Processor line of chips for professional mining.
