Media: Roskomnadzor upgrades equipment for the sovereign Runet
Roskomnadzor plans to increase the throughput of Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) equipment used to implement the so-called law on the sovereign Runet. This is reported by Forbes.
According to informed sources, the main task is to accommodate a larger number of signatures to recognise traffic to blocked resources. The DPI equipment currently in operation can filter up to 100 GB of traffic per second, and the agency plans to increase throughput severalfold.
Roskomnadzor intends to upgrade the equipment under existing contracts, but sanctions and logistical problems have raised its production cost by about 40%, the publication notes.
In addition, the agency plans to create a national system to protect Russian resources from DDoS attacks. A source close to Roskomnadzor said it could appear by autumn this year.
The development of such a system has been driven by intensified cyberattacks on various Russian government resources since the war began.
The law on the sovereign Runet took effect on 1 November 2019. It is designed to ensure the stable operation of the Russian Internet segment in case of disconnection from the global network or coordinated attacks.
