Media: Russia Conducted Runet-Isolation Drills

From June 15 to July 15, exercises to ensure a resilient internet were conducted, РБК writes, citing documents from the working group under the ANO \”Digital Economy\”.

The main goal was to test the Runet’s operation in the event of external distortions, blockages and other threats, said one of the sources familiar with the situation. Another source told the publication that the test examined the possibility of the physical disconnection of the Russian part of the Internet.

According to the media, all operators of the ‘Big Four’ participated in the exercises, as well as Rostelecom, TransTelecom and ER-Telecom Holding.

Roskomnadzor did not confirm or deny the information.

The exercises were postponed several times, with the last one taking place in December 2019.

Earlier, the so-called Runet-isolation law came into force in November 2019.
