Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, discussed with the government and the Bank of Russia the protection of national interests in the field of ‘foreign digital currencies’. He said so on Facebook.
Details of what was discussed have not been disclosed.
Earlier in 2019, Medvedev urged not to bury cryptocurrencies, and said that regulation of the digital sector should be carried out through a set of regulatory acts, and that the norms should be determined by market participants themselves.
In February 2021, Medvedev allowed Russia’s disconnection from the global Internet. According to him, the law ‘on the sovereign Runet’ is meant to protect Russians from such a development.
