Medvedev: Greater trust in government digital currencies than in crypto assets

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev is convinced that trust in state digital currencies will be much higher than in private ones. He said this at a session of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum “9 3/4: Vaccination by Law,” ТАСС reports.

Medvedev noted that new institutions in the financial and economic spheres are built on digital transparency. He included cryptocurrencies among them:

“It is time to realise their role, but perhaps no less the role of new digital forms of money that are issued by the state. This, in essence, is a new kind of money, the trust in which will be immeasurably higher than the trust in cryptocurrencies.”

He emphasised that in developing state digital currencies it is important to take into account the views of all participants in the financial market.

Social networks and blockchain also make the relationships between participants more transparent.

Earlier in April, Medvedev discussed with the government and the Bank of Russia the protection of national interests in the sphere of ‘foreign digital currencies’.
