Merkle Standard acquires 4,449 Bitcoin miners from Bitmain

The mining company Merkle Standard has reached an agreement with Bitmain to purchase 4,449 new ASIC miners with liquid cooling, according to CoinDesk.

The contract envisages delivery of 4,449 Antminer S19 Pro+ Hyd units in May 2022. The publication did not disclose the value of the deal.

Earlier, the California-based company ordered 13,500 devices from Bitmain, including the S19XP and S19J Pro models. It is expected that by the end of the year the company’s hash rate would reach 4.6 EH/s.

Merkle Standard will deploy the equipment in a data centre in eastern Washington. Its power consumption is estimated at 225 MW, with potential to increase to 500 MW.

In January 2022, Bitmain introduced a new miner model with a hashrate of 198 TH/s and energy efficiency of 27.5 J/TH. Prior to that, the manufacturer released the S19XP based on 5-nanometer chips from TSMC. Its parameters are 140 TH/s, 21.5 J/TH and 3,010 W.

Back in late 2021, Marathon Digital Holdings signed a contract with Bitmain to purchase 78,000 Antminer S19XP units for $879.06 million.
