Meta Acquires Breakthrough AI Platform Manus

Meta to acquire AI startup Manus for over $2 billion, integrating its tech into Meta AI.

Meta has reached an agreement to acquire the startup Manus. The deal is valued at over $2 billion, according to WSJ, citing its own sources.

Manus develops autonomous general-purpose AI agents capable of independently performing complex tasks such as market research, coding, and data analysis. The technology acts as a bridge, transforming the capabilities of language models into specific workflows.

Under the terms of the deal, Manus will continue to operate as an independent service. Subscriptions and access for current clients will remain unchanged. Simultaneously, Meta will integrate the startup’s technologies into its business and consumer products, including Meta AI.

Manus CEO Xiao Hong will report to Meta’s COO Javier Olivan. The project’s headquarters will remain in Singapore.

In April, the company secured $75 million in funding led by the venture firm Benchmark. In December, Manus announced achieving an annual revenue of $100 million just eight months after launch.

Since its inception, the platform has processed over 147 trillion tokens and created more than 80 million virtual computers.

The parent company, Butterfly Effect, was founded in 2022 and initially based in China. The team later moved its headquarters to Singapore to work with American investors and technologies. The startup abandoned plans to release a product version for the Chinese market.

Back in June, Manus introduced a feature for creating videos from text prompts.
