American actress of stand-up, film and television Sarah Silverman has filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms and OpenAI for copyright infringement.
Co-plaintiffs include freelance writer Richard Kadrey and horror novelist Christopher Golden. They allege the companies used copyrighted content to train the large language model LLaMA and the ChatGPT chatbot without any prior authorization.
According to the documents, Meta and OpenAI allegedly extracted copyrighted data from the so-called shadow libraries such as Bibliotik, Library Genesis and Z-Library.
“These shadow libraries have long been of interest to the AI training community because of the large amount of materials AI that they host,” the plaintiffs say.
Earlier radio host Mark Walters filed a lawsuit against the developers of ChatGPT after the chatbot erroneously mentioned him as a defendant in a criminal case.
In late June, a class-action lawsuit was filed against OpenAI for the unlawful use of users’ private data to train artificial intelligence.
In March, American screenwriters compared AI-generated content to plagiarism.
In the spring of 2022, British actors opposed the use of artificial intelligence in the film industry.
