Meta Introduces AI-Powered Translator for Facebook and Instagram

Meta has launched an AI-based voice translation feature for Facebook and Instagram users globally.

Meta Corporation has launched an AI-based voice translation feature for Facebook and Instagram users worldwide.

This new feature is available wherever Meta AI is present. It allows creators to translate videos into other languages, thereby reaching a broader audience.

The service replicates the creator’s voice and tone, making the dubbed track as authentic as possible. Additionally, a lip-sync feature is available, ensuring mouth movements match the spoken text.

Initially, translation is available from English to Spanish and vice versa. Over time, support for other languages will be added. The tool is accessible to users with 1,000 or more followers on Facebook and all public accounts on Instagram.

To test the option, users need to click “Translate your voice with Meta AI” before posting a video. After clicking “Share now,” the translation will appear automatically.

Viewers of such content will see a notification indicating the video has been adapted using Meta AI. They can opt out of viewing such videos.

Creators have gained access to a new metric in the Insights panel — views by language. This will help understand how translations attract a new audience.

Restructuring

The new feature comes amid reports of the recent division of Meta’s AI group into four separate units:

• TBD Lab — responsible for large language models like Llama;
• Fundamental AI Research — a research lab focused on long-term projects;
• Products and Applied Research — tasked with turning research and neural networks into consumer products;
• MSL Infra — infrastructure to support ambitious AI plans.

Meta is reallocating a significant portion of its staff among departments to more effectively utilize billions of dollars. There are no layoffs.

In May, Meta AI’s assistant reached 1 billion monthly active users.

Earlier, the company began constructing the Hyperion data center, which will provide the new AI lab with 5 GW of power.
