Meta Introduces Dear Algo for Customizing Threads Recommendations
Meta unveils Dear Algo for personalized Threads recommendations.
Meta Corporation has unveiled the AI feature Dear Algo, enabling Threads users to personalize content recommendation algorithms.
Users need to inform the tool about the types of content they wish to see. To activate it, they must publish a public post starting with the phrase Dear Algo.

The mechanism is similar to how people use text prompts when interacting with chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
“After a user shares a request, the service adjusts the feed for three days to keep the user updated on the most relevant discussions,” company representatives stated.
Additionally, users can repost another user’s Dear Algo request to apply their preferences to their own feed.
“We want Dear Algo to make Threads more personal—whether you are following trending topics or exploring niche interests. It’s another way to help you find the freshest discussions that truly matter,” the company blog states.
The tool was launched in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans to expand to other countries later.
Focus on AI
The introduction of this new tool aligns with Meta’s strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into its product ecosystem. In February, the company added new AI features to Facebook for personalizing interactions and creativity.
The update includes animated avatars, photo styling tools in Stories and Memories, as well as dynamic backgrounds for text posts.
To support these initiatives, the corporation plans to increase capital expenditures on AI to $115–135 billion—nearly double last year’s budget.
The Threads platform was launched in July 2023 as a competitor to X. Last month, Meta reported 400 million monthly active users on the platform and a global launch of advertising.
In January 2026, the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, confirmed the focus on testing new AI features amid ongoing investments in data centers and computing power.
Back in April 2025, Meta launched a separate app for the Meta AI assistant. The digital assistant was previously available on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
