MetaMask Introduces Transaction Shield Feature

MetaMask launches Transaction Shield for enhanced transaction protection.

The popular Web3 wallet, MetaMask, has launched early access to Transaction Shield. This service combines transaction protection tools and priority support, offering insurance coverage directly within the app interface.

“Transaction Shield enhances MetaMask’s security system. Subscribers to the service will receive compensation guarantees of up to $10,000 per month for all transactions deemed safe by the system,” the developers explained.

How Does It Work?

The MetaMask team emphasized that the wallet’s built-in security system automatically protects users’ assets. The infrastructure simulates transactions, analyzes smart contracts and token behavior, and blocks malicious domains and new threats in real-time.

The basic functionality is available to all users. If a transaction passes the check successfully, the system marks it as safe. The Transaction Protection mechanism provides an additional guarantee, covering potential losses on such transactions up to $10,000.

Subscribers to Transaction Shield receive notifications about whether protection applies to a specific transfer. The insurance coverage is valid only at the time of the transaction and does not cover incidents occurring before or after it.

The option is currently available in the MetaMask browser extension, with a mobile version to follow. It supports popular networks: Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, and Sei.

Insurance coverage applies to the following operations:

  • DeFi sector: token swaps on verified DEX (such as Uniswap or 1inch), as well as interactions with lending protocols and liquid staking like Aave and Lido;
  • NFT: minting and trading assets on marketplaces such as OpenSea or Rarible;
  • airdrops: claiming coins through verified smart contracts.

In certain cases, the service does not provide compensation for losses. These include:

  • wallet compromise. Losses resulting from phishing, malware, seed phrase leaks/theft, or breaches of security rules when storing private keys;
  • market risks. Financial losses from technically correct transactions caused by price volatility or low liquidity;
  • vulnerabilities in third-party protocols. Damage from hacks of DeFi platforms or errors in smart contracts not managed by MetaMask.

Requests can be made in the MetaMask extension settings by navigating to the Transaction Shield section.

The subscription costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year. In addition to compensation guarantees, it also includes 24/7 support.

Transaction Shield can be tested for free for 14 days.

Back in October, MetaMask introduced support for multi-chain accounts, allowing users to manage addresses across different networks from a single account.
