MetaMask Simplifies Multi-Blockchain Address Management

MetaMask introduces multichain accounts for easier address management.

The popular Web3 wallet, MetaMask, has introduced support for multichain accounts. Users can now manage addresses across different networks from a single account, moving away from the “one account, one address” model.

Previously, each compatible and incompatible EVM network required a separate account. The new system consolidates addresses for Ethereum, L2 solutions, and Solana. Bitcoin support will be added in the future. Developers claim this will simplify cross-chain operations and eliminate the need to switch between accounts.

The update is automatically deployed in mobile version 7.57 and extension 13.5. The multichain account will become the standard for all new users.

Existing addresses will remain accessible. The system will automatically match old EVM and Solana accounts in chronological order. The update is based on the BIP-44 standard.

There is a limitation for hardware wallets—they currently only support EVM networks.

Rumors of the MASK Token

Following the update, a website appeared online, which the community assumed to be a portal for claiming a future MetaMask token. Initially, the page was password-protected, but it now redirects to the official wallet site.

Joe Lubin, CEO of developer company ConsenSys, has repeatedly hinted at the release of a token. In a recent interview, he stated that the team is “very actively” working on the MASK token and its launch could happen “sooner than expected.”

Lubin also advised keeping an eye on other projects within the ConsenSys ecosystem, which might signal the launch.

Back in October, MetaMask launched perpetual contract trading in its mobile app, utilizing the Hyperliquid infrastructure.
