MetaMask users hit by outages tied to Infura issues

MetaMask developers reported outages in the Web3 wallet caused by issues at the Ethereum infrastructure provider Infura.

Issues affected calls to certain API functions on the Ethereum mainnet, as well as on Palm, Optimism, Polygon, Filecoin and Arbitrum.

As of this writing, the technical issues have been resolved, according to information on the site.

Infura is the primary RPC provider for MetaMask, enabling the wallet to interact with the Ethereum network.

Similar outages occurred previously — in November 2020 some exchanges even had to halt withdrawals. At that time, the Infura issues were linked to consensus errors in older versions of the Geth client. Because part of the network had not upgraded to the latest version, at block 11,234,873 a split of Ethereum into two chains.

In March, the company behind Infura ConsenSys raised $450 million at a $7 billion valuation.
