Meta is developing an AI-based search engine designed to scan the internet and provide conversational responses about current events, according to The Information, citing sources.
The corporation aims to reduce its reliance on Google Search and Microsoft’s Bing, which currently supply news, sports, and stock information to Meta AI chatbot users.
A dedicated team of developers has been working for the past eight months to create a database of necessary information for the search engine, the media reports.
The development of its own AI solution would provide Meta with a backup option should Google and Microsoft exit their agreements, journalists noted.
In July, OpenAI announced an AI-based search engine, SearchGPT. The tool “will deliver quick and timely answers from understandable and relevant sources.”
In May, Google integrated its new artificial intelligence model, Gemini, into its search system.
