Metropolis to Develop Blockchain for AI Agents

The new Metropolis project has announced plans to develop an environment for AI agents to interact with each other, according to Decrypt.

The protocol is designed to create small interconnected blockchains called chainlets, which will facilitate neural network interactions and the creation of numerous new services.

The solution is being developed by the team behind the L1 network Saga, in collaboration with the DAO ai16z, and AI agent developers Virtuals and Wayfinder.

“Metropolis is intentionally built for AI agents. The specialized protocol allows ai16z, Wayfinder, Virtuals, and others to communicate with each other on a single network, creating and managing their own blockchains within the Saga infrastructure,” commented the team’s CEO, Rebecca Liao.

She provided the following examples:

• ElizaOS from ai16z uses advanced cross-chain interaction features;
• The Virtuals agent Butler will offer hosting wallets and ready-to-use features for launching various applications like meme coins and prediction markets;
• The Wayfinder AI agent will provide tools for launching smart contracts and navigating ecosystems.

Currently, Wayfinder, Virtuals, and ai16z lack the ability to communicate with each other. Metropolis will make this possible on the blockchain, Liao noted. The project is expected to launch in spring 2025.
