Mexican Billionaire Outlines Four Reasons to Invest in Bitcoin

Ricardo Salinas Pliego, one of Mexico’s wealthiest individuals and founder of Grupo Salinas, has articulated why the leading cryptocurrency is a sound investment.

1. Long-term growth potential. Bitcoin is akin to a promising company in its early stages. Despite volatility and risks, digital gold has shown impressive growth since its inception, outperforming many other investment options. It offers a chance to be part of a new technology capable of redefining the global financial system.
2. Accessibility and liquidity. Unlike traditional investment options such as real estate and funds, bitcoin can be bought and sold in any amount almost instantly through online platforms. This provides flexibility and accessibility to your funds, but also impulsive reactions to market fluctuations.
3. Diversification of investment portfolio. It is important not to put “all your eggs in one basket.” Cryptocurrency often does not follow stock market trends, making it a potentially good way to mitigate risks.
4. Protection against government absurdities: inflation and currency devaluation. Bitcoin is a good alternative with a limited supply of 21 million BTC, contrasting with fiat money, which authorities can print endlessly, gradually decreasing its value.

“However, like any investment, bitcoin has its risks. In the short term, its value can be extremely volatile. As a relatively new asset, it faces regulatory and market uncertainties. The security of your crypto investments depends on the precautions you take,” he wrote.

According to Salinas Pliego, investing in the first cryptocurrency can be an “exciting and potentially profitable way to start building a diversified portfolio.”

“But it is very important to do so cautiously and within a balanced financial strategy, considering both your long-term goals and your risk tolerance. Never invest funds needed for living,” he added.

In another post, the billionaire noted that patience is key in investing, advising not to panic during downturns and buy, nor to get excited during upturns and sell.

In October 2023, Salinas Pliego described the first cryptocurrency as a reliable hedge against inflation, as it cannot be devalued by the government.

At the time of writing, the billionaire ranks 132nd in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a fortune of $14.2 billion. In November 2020, he revealed that he had invested 10% of his assets in bitcoin.

Back in February 2022, Salinas Pliego stated the superiority of the first cryptocurrency over fiat. In April, he disclosed that 60% of his investment portfolio was in digital gold.
