Miami-Dade authorities weigh paying taxes in bitcoin

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Cohen Higgins in Florida announced the formation of a task force to study the possibility of paying taxes in digital assets. The matter is described in a letter, published on the local government’s website.

According to the document, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin are being considered as payment methods.

In February 2021, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez spoke about the possibility of paying government employees’ salaries in the first cryptocurrency. City authorities voted to study options for integrating Bitcoin into the municipal infrastructure.

Earlier, Suarez spoke of a desire to create a Bitcoin mining center in the city. According to him, 90% of miners mine the first cryptocurrency using \”dirty energy\” outside the United States.

Back in late 2020, the Miami mayor said he was open to studying the possibility of investing 1% of city reserves in Bitcoin.
