Microsoft integrates AI search into Bing, Edge and Skype apps

Microsoft has integrated AI-powered ChatGPT-based search into the mobile apps Bing, Edge, and Skype for iOS and Android.

“With 64% of search queries coming from mobile devices, we are releasing new Bing and Edge apps that will be your assistant even when you are away from a computer,” Microsoft said.

To start a chat session in the Bing app, tap the corresponding button at the bottom of the screen. In addition to text input, users can dictate a query and receive a voice response.

In the Edge mobile browser, chat-based search works similarly. Access to the bot is available from the home page or by visiting the Bing site.

In addition, developers added voice control to the desktop version of the search engine.

In the Skype app, users can chat with the bot one-on-one or add it to group chats. For example, Bing can help plan a trip, map a route, and compile a list of sights.

“When you’re planning a short daytime stop in Tokyo, ask Bing to help find a place to store your luggage. It will provide guidance on navigating the subway on the way to the famous Shinjuku Station, create a short route, and help you get the most from your trip by translating everything along the way,” the developers wrote in a blog post.

The company announced the arrival of Bing in other apps, such as Teams. However, developers are still fine-tuning the chatbot to fix previously identified issues.

In February, Microsoft raised the limits on Bing chat requests and announced a ‘chatty’ mode.

In the same month, developers had to curb the search engine’s functionality because of its odd behavior. It turned out that the base model gets tangled in sessions with 15 or more messages.
