“We aim to help customers use our platforms and tools to do more with less today and drive innovation for the future in the new era of AI,” Nadella said.
Microsoft’s cloud division posted the strongest results in the past quarter. Revenue from intelligent cloud computing grew 18% year over year. Revenue from server products rose 20%, and from Azure and other cloud services — 31%.
“Only the Azure ML revenue grew by more than 100% for five straight quarters,” Nadella said.
The head of the company also spoke about the popularity of the code-generation service GitHub Copilot. According to him, the tool’s user base rose to 1 million users.
Other segments posted the expected decline. Revenue from Windows OEM licenses fell by 39%. The company attributed this to the continuing weakness of the PC market.
Revenue from devices, which now include the mixed-reality HoloLens headsets, Surface computers and accessories, also fell by 39%.
The company expects that the revenue drop in these two categories will continue in the next reporting period.
Microsoft’s gaming division revenues declined by 13%.
Revenue from Office commercial products rose 7%, and from Office 365 — 11%. The company said the number of subscribers grew by 12%, reaching 63.2 million in total.
In other countries, LinkedIn revenue rose 10% year over year, and revenue from search and news advertising also grew by 10%.
In January, Microsoft announced the layoff of 10,000 employees due to worsening economic conditions.
A few days later, the company announced a partnership with OpenAI. The investment amount in the California startup could reach up to $10 billion.
