Microsoft Transforms Edge into an AI Assistant

Microsoft has introduced a new feature in its Edge browser called Copilot Mode, enabling users to browse web pages with the assistance of artificial intelligence.

Once the mode is activated, a new tab opens for the user, allowing them to search, chat, and navigate to web pages using Copilot. When visiting sites, users can seek assistance from the AI assistant.

In one example, Microsoft demonstrated how someone asked the AI companion if a found recipe could be made vegan.

While the ability to ask questions to chatbots is not new, Copilot Mode simplifies the process by eliminating the need to forward content.

The AI can also be asked to provide the recipe itself, avoiding the need to read the author’s “life story” that often accompanies such instructions.

Microsoft noted that Copilot can perform tasks on behalf of the user, such as booking appointments, creating shopping lists, and preparing content. Voice input is also available.

Another feature is the ability to view open tabs. The AI can do this to understand the content being viewed, which is useful for comparing products or conducting online research.

The idea is for the AI to become an assistant that understands user search queries, anticipates their intentions, and can act on their behalf.

Copilot Mode is available for free to all Mac or PC owners with access to Copilot.
