Mining equipment theft in the Irkutsk region totalled 76 million rubles in 2021

From the start of 2021, around 250 cases of theft of cryptocurrency mining equipment were registered in the Irkutsk region. The total damage exceeded 76 million rubles, reported by the local police.

Earlier this week, criminal investigators detained another suspect in mining equipment theft.

The victim was a 44-year-old resident of the Khuzhir settlement in Olkhonsky District. He said unknown assailants stole cryptocurrency mining equipment from his storeroom. According to preliminary data, the amount of damage amounted to more than 50,000 rubles.

The investigators identified a likely suspect. He was a 42-year-old man with prior multiple convictions.

A criminal case has been opened into the theft. The equipment will be returned to the owner after the investigation is completed.

Earlier in October, a resident of Irkutsk detained a suspect who attempted to steal his cryptocurrency mining equipment worth more than 1 million rubles.
