Mining farm found at Abkhazia's asphalt plant; director to be dismissed

Abkhazia’s economy minister and deputy prime minister Kristina Ozgan demanded that the director of the asphalt plant, where a mining farm was discovered the day before, be fired \”within an hour.\” She announced this at a meeting in the Ministry of Economy, according to Sputnik.

More than 200 devices for cryptocurrency mining were found last week during an inspection trip by Abkhazia’s President Aslan Bzhania. The farm was dismantled the same day.

The reprimand was also issued to staff at the Ministry of Economy who were responsible for monitoring mining activity on state facilities.

In December, authorities announced the shutdown of all mining farms on Abkhazia’s territory by 1 June 2021.

In January, the Abkhazian Interior Ministry reported conducting several raids to curb mining activity.

President Aslan Bzhania sent to Parliament a package of bills to tighten penalties for illegal connection of mining farms.
