Mining farm illegally consuming electricity found in Uzbekistan valued at about $860,000

In the Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan, law-enforcement officers found a mining farm illegally connected to the power grid, local media report.

According to preliminary data, the farm was organized by citizens of Korea and Uzbekistan. Equipment was valued at 9.2 billion soums (about $860,000 at the time of writing), and the damage from illegally used electricity amounted to 265.2 million soums (over $25,000).

The investigation is ongoing.

Since 2019, miners in Uzbekistan have been required to pay for electricity at a triple tariff. In addition, mining activities for cryptocurrency in the country remain unregulated.
