The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan uncovered a large mining farm in the village of Druzhba in the Issyk-Ata District. reports Sputnik, citing the agency’s press service.
Foreign nationals organized the mining farm under the guise of a greenhouse and installed 2,500 servers there.
According to representatives of the committee, the farm’s illegal activity inflicted colossal damage on Kyrgyzstan’s power grids.
Law enforcement officers are searching for those involved in running the mining farm and are tallying the amount of damage. The legality of the import of server equipment into the country will also be established during the investigation.
Earlier in May, Kyrgyz authorities seized more than 2,000 mining devices in Bishkek and the Chuy Region.
In June 2020, the local parliament approved a 15% tax for miners.
