FSB officers in the Russian Republic of Dagestan halted operations at several mining farms that were illegally connected to power grids. The report, citing the press service of the regional agency пишет TASS.
During searches, security forces seized 4343 ASIC miners with a total value exceeding 500 million rubles.
One farm operated at the trolleybus depot in Makhachkala. In the Kizlyarsky district, the company “Elektron” organized a mining-hotel for 3,000 devices, paying electricity at the private individuals’ tariff. Another mining-hotel was set up in the village of Novoye Gadari on the basis of an agro-industrial complex.
Experts estimate that the total volume of illegally consumed electricity was around 8 MWh. The equipment is now sealed; 13 rail cars were needed to store it.
The exact amount of damage will be determined by Dagenergo specialists.
In November 2021, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Energy stated that майнинг не относится к бытовым нуждам, therefore the electricity used for it should not be billed at the population’s subsidised rate.
In late December, Russian regions gained the right to set electricity tariffs for households based on consumption, in accordance with amendments to the government decree.
Before that, the subjects of the Russian Federation had to secure recalculations through courts.
