Mistral AI Plans Stock Market Debut
Mistral AI, a European leader in artificial intelligence, is planning an IPO, as announced by the startup’s CEO, Arthur Mensch, on Bloomberg TV.
“Of course, it’s the plan,” he responded to a journalist’s question.
His company is opening an office in Singapore to focus on development in the Asia-Pacific region. It is also expanding its presence in Europe and the United States.
Mistral was launched in early 2023 by former employees of DeepMind and Meta. The company positions itself as a European competitor to OpenAI. The firm released a ChatGPT-like tool called Le Chat.
In September 2024, the startup introduced a neural network with multimodal capabilities.
Mensch claims that his company can launch models more cheaply than competitors. It targets European clients concerned about data processing outside the EU.
Mistral AI lags behind American competitors in terms of funding. In June, the firm raised €600 million ($640 million) in equity and debt capital, valuing the company at $6 billion. Previously, it had been supported with €385 million ($402 million).
Earlier in January 2025, American firm Anthropic secured an additional $1 billion from Google.
Prior to this, OpenAI received $6.6 billion, valuing it at $157 billion. The deal became one of the largest in the history of venture investments.
