Mobile operators propose storing digital rubles on smartphones
Russian mobile operators are interested in integrating wallets for the digital ruble into smartphones if the new asset is released. The story is reported by Izvestia, citing market sources.
A MegaFon representative noted that operators could help accelerate the launch and dissemination of the digital ruble, thanks to the scale of telecommunications services. He noted that tying the wallet to the subscriber number could enable more flexible management of digital assets.
Identifiers could be existing operator services, and security could be ensured by recording the user’s cryptographic keys on the SIM card, the company said.
Beeline noted that they are also interested in the possibility of conducting payment P2P transfers without intermediaries, including offline mode.
Beeline, together with Megafon, actively participated in the discussion Bank of Russia’s report, dedicated to the digital ruble.
