Montenegro Approves Do Kwon’s Extradition to the US

Montenegro’s Minister of Justice, Bojan Božović, has approved the extradition of Terra’s founder, Do Kwon, to the United States, according to local publication Vijesti.

The authorities evaluated extradition requests from both the US and South Korea based on several criteria, including the severity and location of the crime, the procedure for submitting official documents, and the possibility of Kwon’s subsequent transfer to another country.

“The Minister of Justice has issued a decision allowing Do Kwon’s extradition to the US while simultaneously denying the request from the Republic of Korea,” the department stated.

On December 25, the court rejected Kwon’s latest appeal to cancel the extradition, delegating the decision to Božović.

Previously, the entrepreneur had repeatedly managed to appeal Montenegrin authorities’ decisions, which had attempted to send him to both the US and South Korea.

Kwon spent four months in a local prison on charges of using forged documents. In March 2024, he was released and moved to an immigration center, where he is to remain until extradition or further developments.

In September, Montenegrin authorities arrested a co-founder of the cryptocurrency pyramid scheme FutureNet.
