Moonvalley Unveils Marey: A New Era in AI Video Generation

Startup Moonvalley has launched Marey, a video generation model that comprehends the physical structure of the real world.

The neural network was first opened for beta testing in March. Now, the developers have launched a paid subscription: the basic plan costs $14.99 per month, with additional plans available for $34.99 and $149.99.

Marey allows the creation of clips up to five seconds long.

The company’s founders, who previously worked at DeepMind on a video generation model, claim their new product is trained entirely openly on licensed data. This approach aligns with the interests of the startup’s clients—filmmakers seeking to avoid potential lawsuits over copyright-protected AI content.

According to the developers, Marey considers the physical properties of the real world and reproduces movements based on the laws of nature. This capability is planned to be developed further to add more interactive elements to storytelling.

For instance, a video of a bison running through the prairies can be transformed into a clip of a Cadillac racing through the same environment, with grass and earth realistically reacting to the car’s movement. Alternatively, the model can overlay the image of George Washington onto an actor, accurately conveying facial expressions, forearm muscle movements, and the original’s gestures.

Among other features of Marey: support for free camera movement. This allows changing the shooting trajectory using a mouse. The model can also replace the background in videos, enabling directors to use original footage as a base for constructing the desired scene.

In the coming months, the following features are planned to be added:

The public release of Marey places it in direct competition with a growing number of AI video generation models—Runway Gen-3, Luma Dream Machine, Pika, and Haiper.

Back in May, Google released the Veo 3 video generator, which can create sound.
