Mozilla to Introduce AI Models in Firefox Nightly
Mozilla announced the integration of several AI models into the test version of its Firefox browser, known as Nightly.
Initially, users will have access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Hugging Face’s HuggingChat, and Mistral’s Le Chat. The addition of new chatbots is planned for the future.
“Providing choice in AI services is important for several reasons. Firstly, you should be able to choose the service that best suits you and not be tied to a single provider. Secondly, all these models are in the stages of development and refinement. None of them is perfect, each has strengths and weaknesses. Offering choice allows people to experiment with different services to find the one most useful for solving their problems,” commented Firefox Senior Vice President Ian Carmichael.
The launch of AI tools in Nightly, the version of Firefox for testing new features, is expected this week. Users will be able to add one of the proposed chatbots to the sidebar. They can then highlight a text fragment from a web page and send it to the neural network for:
- summarization, making the excerpt easier to understand at a glance;
- simplification—the chatbot will transform the text into a simpler form;
- verification of acquired knowledge.
Earlier, Google incorporated artificial intelligence into Gmail and other services.
Back in May, the corporation integrated generative AI into its search engine.
